Indonesia and Uzbekistan Strengthen Political and Defense Cooperation

KBRN, Jakarta – Indonesia and Uzbekistan have agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the fields of politics and defense. This agreement was reached during a meeting between Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono and Uzbek Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov in Jakarta on Tuesday (11/2/2025).
During the meeting, Indonesia and Uzbekistan acknowledged significant progress in their bilateral relations, including the meeting between the Presidents of Indonesia and Uzbekistan on the sidelines of COP28 in Dubai in 2023, as well as the official visit of the Indonesian Vice President to Uzbekistan in the same year.
"They recognize the rapid growth in exchanges of visits and meetings between government officials of both countries in recent years," said the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement received in Jakarta on Wednesday (12/2/2025).
Additionally, both countries reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening defense cooperation. In this regard, Indonesia and Uzbekistan are exploring various opportunities to enhance collaboration in the defense industry, military training, and intelligence exchange to address regional and global security challenges.
"They have agreed to intensify dialogue and coordination in addressing transnational threats, including terrorism and cybercrime," stated the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Furthermore, both ministers highlighted the importance of cooperation in international forums, including the United Nations (UN) and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). Indonesia and Uzbekistan are committed to mutual support on various global issues of common interest, such as stability in Central Asia and the Indo-Pacific region.
With the strengthening political and defense relations between Indonesia and Uzbekistan, both nations are optimistic that this partnership will continue to grow stronger in the future. The concrete steps agreed upon in this meeting are expected to serve as a foundation for broader and more strategic cooperation across various sectors.
