RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment, Muhaimin Iskandar, emphasized that the government is committed to ensuring the sustainability of the National Health Insurance (JKN) program through budget support.
This commitment ensures that the public continues to have equitable and sustainable access to healthcare services throughout Indonesia.
Minister Muhaimin stated that the government allocates IDR 48.6 trillion (approx. USD 2.70 billion) annually to finance JKN contribution assistance recipients (PBI), plus an additional IDR 4 trillion from regional administrations.
The government is preparing an additional IDR 20 trillion in funding to strengthen the program's sustainability and maintain the financial health of the Health Care and Social Security Agency (BPJS Kesehatan).
"IDR 22.2 trillion of that funding is designated for catastrophic illnesses, including dialysis, heart disease, chemotherapy, and others. We have to allocate IDR 22.2 trillion for that alone," said Minister Muhaimin Iskandar in a press statement in Jakarta, Thursday, July 2, 2026.
According to him, the JKN Program demonstrates the state's commitment to protecting the public through a national health insurance system based on mutual cooperation. He believes that the JKN program reflects the spirit of mutual cooperation in ensuring healthcare services for all.
"BPJS Kesehatan is a massive collaborative effort. It's a joint effort that alleviates a shared burden," he said.
He explained that the spirit of mutual cooperation is evident in the financing of catastrophic illnesses, such as dialysis. With costs of around IDR 700,000 per procedure, these costs are shared through JKN participant contributions.
He emphasized that protecting the poor and vulnerable remains a government priority. Therefore, the mechanism for recipients of JKN contribution assistance will continue to be refined to ensure that changes in people's economic conditions do not hinder access to healthcare services.
During the transition period, those deemed capable will be directed to become independent participants. Meanwhile, those who still meet the criteria will continue to receive government contribution assistance.
"BPJS Kesehatan must notify each participant in advance of any change in status. Coordination with the Ministry of Social Affairs is necessary to ensure that participant data is accurate," he said. (Misni Parjiati)
