RRI.CO.ID, Tangerang - The Tangerang Regency Administration has urged the public not to use water or consume fish from the Cisadane River. This follows a warehouse fire in the Taman Tekno area of BSD in South Tangerang City on Monday, February 9, 2026, which resulted in chemical contamination.

The Head of the Tangerang Regency Health Agency, Hendra Tarmizi, stated that the public should refrain from using the water until the environmental quality inspection results are available. “For the time being, residents living along the banks of the Cisadane River should exercise caution when using the water and consuming fish,” he said on Tuesday, February 10, 2026.

According to Hendra, the ban is temporary and will be lifted once the river water is declared safe and its quality returns to normal. "Until the water is declared safe from heavy metals or the river returns to normal," he said.

The Tangerang Regency Administration is currently awaiting official inspection results from the authorities to determine the quality of the Cisadane River water and its potential risks to public health.

"The Ministry of Environment and Forestry is currently investigating, specifically regarding heavy metal content," Hendra said.

Separately, Omay Komarudin, head of the fire and rescue division of the South Tangerang city fire department, revealed that 2.5 tons of pesticide are suspected to have spilled and polluted the environment following a warehouse fire in the Taman Tekno area of BSD in South Tangerang city.

According to Omay, the warehouse's drainage system is directly connected to the river. Therefore, the remaining waste from the fire was quickly carried away by the current.

"Approximately five tons of insecticide spilled, polluting the environment. The pollution from burning the chemicals from the broken bottles ultimately flowed into the river," he said.

The Environmental Agency of Tangerang City and Regency (DLH) tested water samples from the Cisadane River, which was contaminated with chemical waste after a fire.

"The samples will be tested in the laboratory to determine the extent of the pollution. The impact is already visible, with fish dying," said Hendri P. Syahputra, head of the pollution and environmental damage control division of the Tangerang City Environmental Agency (DLH), on Tuesday, February 10, 2026.

He explained that his team took the samples to check the water quality standards. They are also investigating the source of the pollution and identifying indicators of the level of contamination.

"From there, we can determine what follow-up action to take. We are sampling water at several locations where pollution is evident," Hendri said. (Misni Parjiati)
