KBRN, Jakarta: Pulmonologist Nurvidya Rachma Dewi said there is currently no specific medication for Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV). Therefore, she advises the public to take preventive action by boosting their immune system.

"Specific treatment for HMPV is not yet available. The efforts made are to improve the body's resistance and reduce the patient's clinical symptoms," Nurvidya said in a written statement on Monday, January 27, 2025, as reported by rri.co.id.

She explained that HMPV treatment focuses on reducing symptoms such as fever and cough and improving the body's immunity. This includes consuming nutritious food, getting enough rest, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

According to her, HMPV symptoms usually recover within five to seven days in people with good immune systems. However, severe cases can occur in patients with comorbid diseases such as diabetes or immune disorders.

"HMPV can cause pneumonia in patients with comorbidities. Even in patients with weak immune systems," she explained.

She added that HMPV transmission can also be prevented by implementing clean and healthy living habits, including washing hands regularly.

However, she advised that patients should immediately consult a doctor for further treatment if symptoms worsen. "With good immunity, the body is able to fight viral or bacterial infections optimally," she said.

It is known that the Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) has become a concern because it causes respiratory tract infections, especially in vulnerable groups. HMPV attacks children, the elderly, and individuals with weak immune systems. ***
