Construction of Bogor Waste-to-Energy Plant Officially Begins

RRI.CO.ID, Bogor – Danantara Indonesia officially began building the Bogor Raya I Waste-to-Energy (PSEL) facility in Galuga Village, Bogor Regency, West Java, on Thursday, September 17, 2026. This PSEL facility is the third project of its kind after Denpasar and Bekasi.

The Chief Executive Officer of Danantara Investment Management, Pandu Patria Syahrir, stated that this modern facility was designed using the European Union Industrial Emissions Directive standards. This strategic project is targeted to manage more than 500,000 tons of waste per year.

"This project is targeted to manage more than 500,000 tons of waste per year, or about 45% of the total waste produced by the city and regency of Bogor," Pandu said.

He further explained that the Rp2.8 trillion project focuses not only on waste volume, but also brings positive impacts to the environment and society. The project is projected to cut landfill waste emissions by up to 80%, reduce carbon emissions by 640,000 tons, provide green energy to more than 100,000 households, and create about 1,200 new jobs for local communities.

Meanwhile, the Vice Minister of Home Affairs, Bima Arya Sugiarto, mentioned that two areas in the Bogor Raya region have produced about 4,000 tons of waste every day. He pointed out that this major problem has been difficult to completely solve in the past.

Bima stated, "The waste problem in Bogor Raya is a tricky issue passed from mayor to mayor and regent to regent. In total, it might reach about 4,000 tons of waste per day from these two regions, which has been hard to completely resolve."

The Bogor Raya I PSEL project is a collaboration between the central and regional governments, the state electricity company PLN as a clean energy partner, and an international technology partner from China. Through the construction of this PSEL, which is targeted for completion in 2028, the emergency waste problem in the Bogor Raya region is expected to be completely resolved.
