BKSDA Rescues Endangered Green Peafowl in Denpasar

RRI.CO.ID, Denpasar - The Bali Natural Resources Conservation Center (BKSDA) has evacuated a green peafowl (Pavo muticus), which was found in a residential area in Denpasar, for medical rehabilitation. The rescue of the endangered species was conducted to ensure that the bird is in suitable condition before it is eventually released back into its natural habitat.
Following the report, the Wildlife Rescue Unit (WRU), together with the Badung-Denpasar-Tabanan Resort team, immediately went to the location and carried out the evacuation. The green peafowl was then taken to the Bali BKSDA office for a health examination and rehabilitation.
Bali BKSDA officer, I Nyoman Alit Suardana, said the green peafowl was a protected species whose existence needed to be safeguarded because its population in the wild faced the threat of extinction.
“It is an endangered species. Therefore, its conservation must be maintained to ensure that the ecosystem remains properly balanced and that its wild population can be preserved and sustained,” he explained.
The Bali BKSDA will subsequently rehabilitate and conduct a health examination on the bird. If it is declared fit, the green peafowl will be released back into its natural habitat.
As a token of appreciation, the Bali BKSDA also presented a certificate of recognition to Ni Wayan Sara Saraswati, who reported the discovery and voluntarily handed over the bird.
Bali BKSDA Head, Ratna Hendratmoko, urged the public to actively report any discovery of wild animals requiring assistance.
“Collaboration between the public and the government is an important part of supporting wildlife conservation efforts in Bali. If members of the public find an injured wild animal, one that is threatened, one that has entered a residential area, or one that is in an inappropriate location, they should immediately contact the Bali Natural Resources Conservation Agency’s WRU Call Center,” she said.
