Indonesia Increases Transparency in Forestry Licensing

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian government is strengthening the reform of forestry sector licensing services. It is done thru a more transparent, effective, and accountable system to support business certainty as well as sustainable forest management.

The Minister of Forestry, Raja Juli Antoni, conveyed this commitment during the Leadership Meeting of the Ministry of Forestry at the Manggala Wanabakti Building, Jakarta, on Monday, August 3, 2026. He emphasized that improving the quality of public services is one of the ministry's priorities in the next six months.

"I want in the next six months we have a more open and transparent service system. Public services must be a priority," he said.

According to him, every licensing service must have clear information, starting from the name of the service, definite requirements, completion time, to costs, thus providing certainty for the community and business actors.

Data from the Ministry of Forestry shows that from 2024 to July 2026, 2,104 licensing services covering 42 types of services in five echelon I work units have been issued.

The Directorate General of Natural Resources and Ecosystem Conservation (KSDAE) became the unit with the highest number of services, issuing 1,126 permits. Next, the Directorate General of Forestry Planning issued 478 permits, the Directorate General of Social Forestry issued 410 permits, the Directorate General of River Basin Management and Forest Rehabilitation issued 51 permits, and the Directorate General of Sustainable Forest Management issued 39 permits.

"Public services must be a priority," he explained.

The Ministry of Forestry stated that the reform of licensing services is part of efforts to strengthen business certainty, support the conservation of natural resources, improve sustainable forest management, and expand community empowerment thru professional, transparent, and accountable forest governance.
