RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – The Indonesian government launched four Biodiversity Status Documents for the Bali–Nusa Tenggara, Java, Maluku, and Papua regions in Jakarta on Tuesday, July 21, 2026. This launch is part of the country's commitment to strengthening scientific data as a foundation for evidence-based policymaking.

The four documents provide up-to-date information regarding biodiversity conditions at the ecosystem, species, and genetic resource levels. These strategic records will guide the implementation of the Indonesian Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (IBSAP) 2025–2045.

Indonesia's Minister of National Development Planning, Minister Rachmat Pambudy, stated that biodiversity is an essential element for long-term sustainable development. He emphasized its strategic role in supporting food, water, and energy security toward the Golden Indonesia 2045 vision.

"Biodiversity is the source of our future. Every day, we enjoy food, fisheries, spices, and medicines, all of which come from biological sources and are an integral part of our lives. In both the 2025–2045 National Long-Term Development Plan (RPJPN) and the 2025–2029 National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN), biodiversity is a key element," he said during his keynote address.

Meanwhile, Indonesian Minister of Environment Moh Jumhur Hidayat added that updating environmental data is necessary to respond to pressures such as climate change and habitat degradation. The government is currently preparing supporting policies, including regulations on the access and benefit-sharing of genetic resources.

“We are currently preparing several biodiversity policies, including a draft government regulation on access to and the sharing of benefits from the use of genetic resources and the management of the economic value of biodiversity,” Jumhur said.

The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) will support these national measures by providing scientific evidence and research-based recommendations. Head of BRIN Arif Satria affirmed that scientific research must deliver tangible benefits for public welfare and sustainable resource management.

Arif explained, “The launch of these four Biodiversity Status Documents marks the beginning of efforts to strengthen research and innovation in support of Indonesia’s biodiversity management. BRIN will continue to serve as a research facilitator by providing data, scientific evidence, and science-based recommendations to support sustainable policies.”
