RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesia's National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) is ready to enhance its collaboration with the Ocean Institute of Indonesia (OII). This collaboration aims to produce various innovations that support the President's strategic programs in the maritime and fisheries sector.

The Ocean Institute of Indonesia (OII) was formed through the merger of 11 vocational campuses under the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) into a single, integrated institution to develop superior and globally competitive maritime human resources. "BRIN is ready to collaborate with the Ocean Institute of Indonesia to produce the latest innovations to support the President's strategic programs," the Head of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), Arif Satria, said while attending the OII launch held by the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) in Jakarta on Tuesday, July 21, 2026.

He stated that BRIN has established a partnership with the KKP to strengthen research and innovation in support of various strategic government programs. "The presence of the Ocean Institute of Indonesia (OII) is also expected to mark a new chapter in marine and fisheries education, producing superior human resources ready to collaborate with BRIN," he said.

On the other hand, according to him, the development of fishing villages and the downstreaming of the marine and fisheries industry require strong research and innovation support. He stated that BRIN has identified various superior innovations ready for implementation.

Meanwhile, Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, stated that the establishment of the Ocean Institute of Indonesia (OII) is part of the transformation of vocational education at the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, uniting 11 educational institutions under one vision to support the President's priority programs.

He added that collaboration with BRIN will be directed at strengthening innovation and downstreaming in the marine and fisheries sector, starting from the development of thematic cultivation, seaweed, lobster, abalone, and other superior commodities to increase Indonesia's competitiveness at the global level. "Therefore, we must develop it so that we can at least catch up with other countries," he said.
