RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian government officially launched the Indonesia Forestry Carbon Hub, or the Indonesian Forestry Carbon Hub, in Jakarta. In a press release received on July 7, 2026, the launch of this platform is one of the government's strategic steps to build a transparent, technology-enabled carbon market, while accelerating emission reductions from the forestry sector.

Indonesia's Forestry Minister, Raja Juli Antoni, conveyed that the platform is designed to strengthen forestry governance and ensure Indonesia's carbon integrity in the eyes of the world. According to him, credibility is key to Indonesia's ability to compete fairly in the increasingly stringent global carbon market.

To achieve this, the government is collaborating with the Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market (ICVCM), an international institution that will oversee the implementation of the voluntary carbon market in Indonesia. This collaboration aims to prevent carbon leakage and ensure accurate and accountable emission measurement and calculation methods.

Raja Juli Antoni underscored the importance of collaboration with ICVCM in maintaining national forestry governance standards. "Furthermore, to maintain our good forest governance, our high carbon integrity, we have collaborated with the ICVCM. The Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market will also monitor us to ensure there is no carbon leakage and that our measurement methods are correct," he said.

He hopes this step will maintain Indonesia's high-integrity carbon credibility and strengthen the foundation of forestry sector governance as a whole. "This is an important part of ensuring our carbon has high value in the eyes of the world," he said.

The establishment of the Indonesia Forestry Carbon Hub (IFCH) is part of the government's efforts to build a credible and integrated forestry carbon ecosystem that still provides economic benefits to the country. Meanwhile, the role of forests as absorbers of greenhouse gas emissions will also be maintained to support the national emission reduction target.

As a continuation of this initiative, the government is scheduled to launch the Carbon Unit Registry System (SRUK) on July 9, 2026. This system will become the main infrastructure for national carbon trading, serving as a platform for registration, recording, and management of Indonesian carbon units, while strengthening the transparency, accountability, and integrity of the carbon market at the national level.
