RRI.CO.ID, Mataram - Mount Rinjani National Park (TNGR) Center in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) has joined forces with community groups to strengthen waste management along popular trekking routes. This collaborative initiative aims to protect Mount Rinjani’s long-term natural heritage.

“Concrete steps to preserve Mount Rinjani are being reinforced through collaboration among various parties,” said Head of the TNGR NTB, Budy Kurniawan, in Mataram on Friday, 19 June 2026.

TNGR has signed a memorandum of understanding on waste transport between the Park Management Section (SPTN) Region I TNGR and the Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle (TPS3R) facility Arung Rinjani in Senaru village. The agreement focuses on collecting and moving waste generated by hikers from the Senaru and Torean trails.

“This cooperation represents a shared commitment to strengthen management of waste from hiking activities, especially on the Senaru and Torean routes to Mount Rinjani,” said Budy, as quoted by Antara.

Budy said the partnership aims to create a more effective, integrated, and sustainable waste-management system so the park remains clean, and visitors enjoy a better experience. He framed Rinjani not only as a current tourist destination, but as a natural legacy for future generations.

“The mountain’s cleanliness is a shared responsibility,” he added.

In addition to the agreement, TNGR is conducting ongoing assistance programs for community groups in the Torean and Aik Berik resort areas. The programs aim to strengthen local institutions, build business capacity, and promote community economic development that aligns with conservation principles.

“Sustained mentoring is expected to strengthen group independence, increase added value of local flagship products, and reinforce the community’s role in safeguarding the conservation area for future generations,” concluded Budy. ***
