RRI.CO.ID, Singapore - The Ministry of Forestry of the Republic of Indonesia and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) officially signed an Implementing Arrangement (IA) concerning the Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD+) project on the sidelines of Ecosperity Week in Singapore on Wednesday, May 20, 2026.

The signing was carried out by, Head of the Bureau of Public Relations and International Cooperation, Ristianto Pribadi, and Director of the Climate Change Division of UNEP, Martin Krause. The Implementing Arrangement (IA) document is a follow-up to a 2024 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation in the environmental and forestry sectors.

In his remarks, Ristanto expressed his appreciation for the close and constructive collaboration between the two parties during the drafting of the Implementing Arrangement. This agreement reflects a shared commitment to strengthening REDD+ implementation.

The Director of the Climate Change Division of UNEP, Martin Krause, stated that forests are one solution capable of addressing various challenges, including carbon storage, community and biodiversity protection, and strengthening resilience.

Through this collaboration, the two parties will strengthen collaboration in several strategic areas, such as technical support in mobilizing results-based financing for REDD+, strengthening carbon market readiness and implementing Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, developing social forestry and community-based enterprises, increasing the forestry sector's contribution to greenhouse gas mitigation efforts, and strengthening safeguards and knowledge-based implementation at the national and subnational levels.

The Ministry of Forestry assesses that the partnership with UNEP aligns with its commitment to supporting the achievement of Indonesia's 2030 FOLU Net Sink target and Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC). Going forward, the collaboration between the two parties is expected to further strengthen joint efforts to promote high-integrity climate action, sustainable forestry governance, and long-term resilience development.
