RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Amidst mounting instability in the Middle East, the Jakarta Provincial Administration is accelerating its transition toward energy independence by prioritizing solar power and public transit.

Jakarta Governor, Pramono Anung Wibowo, revealed that the shift to alternative energy sources is no longer just an environmental goal but a strategic necessity to shield the capital from global supply chain disruptions. The move comes as a direct response to geopolitical tensions that threaten the stability of fossil fuel imports and domestic fuel stocks.

During a press conference regarding the first-quarter 2026 budget realization at City Hall on Friday, April 17, Governor Pramono emphasized that the administration is actively scaling up solar panel installations across the city. He noted that the specific frameworks for this transition are currently being finalized to ensure a seamless integration into the city's infrastructure.

“Regarding efficiency and alternative energy, Jakarta is currently developing solar panels as one of our primary focuses. This policy will be implemented in more detail to provide alternatives that reduce our dependence on fossil fuels," said the Governor, as quoted by Antara.

Beyond the technical implementation of renewable energy, the provincial administration is doubling down on behavioral shifts to curb fuel consumption. Governor Pramono highlighted that improving public transport connectivity is the linchpin of Jakarta’s energy efficiency strategy, urging residents to abandon private vehicles in favor of the city’s expanding transit network.

To further mitigate fuel demand, the administration is also maintaining a work from home policy every Friday for provincial employees, a move designed to drastically lower the city's overall carbon footprint and daily fuel intake. ***
