RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The East Jakarta City Administration is transforming its administrative headquarters into a model for ecological responsibility by enforcing rigorous waste management protocols. Moving beyond simple awareness, the city is implementing a formal Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) and a specific directive for civil servants to ensure that waste reduction begins at the individual desk level.

East Jakarta Mayor, Munjirin, emphasized that the new SOP will dictate a precise flow for waste, from the moment it is discarded in an office to its arrival at the Integrated Waste Treatment Site (TPST).

"Later, the distribution of waste processing from rooms will already be sorted through to the officers who collect the waste. Until it reaches the TPST, it must truly be in a sorted condition," said Mayor Munjirin in Jakarta on Wednesday, April 15, 2026.

This systematic approach is designed to streamline the work of the Environment Subagency (LH) by ensuring organic and inorganic materials never mix.

The initiative introduces a cultural shift within the workforce, moving away from single-use plastics and passive disposal habits. Under the upcoming special instructions, every civil servant will be required to use personal tumblers to eliminate plastic bottle waste.

Furthermore, accountability will extend to official meetings and staff are now expected to be responsible for their own refusal. "After a meeting is finished, employees are required to take their respective waste to the trash cans that have been separated based on their type," added Munjirin, as quoted by Antara.

To ensure the success of these mandates, the City Administration is undergoing a rapid one-week consolidation period to upgrade office infrastructure. This includes the placement of color-coded, segregated bins in every room, a project supported by a partnership with Baznas Bazis East Jakarta.

The mayor has set a firm timeline for this transition, noting that he has requested one week for the consolidation of infrastructure readiness before the system becomes fully operational.

This comprehensive strategy aims to create a more orderly, measurable, and sustainable waste management system that serves as a blueprint for other administration agencies and the general public.

The foundation for this rollout was laid on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, during a socialization session attended by 100 participants, including civil servants and individual service providers (PJLP). The event was also attended by the Assistant for Economy and Development, Fauzi, and the Head of the East Jakarta Environment Subagency, Julius Monangta. ***
