RRI.CO.ID, Kota Bandung - The Bandung City Administration in West Java Province is officially opening the floor for a major transformation of the Bandung Zoo. This move shifts the focus toward a more modern and integrated management model.
To kickstart this transition, the city will host a market sounding event at the Aryaduta Hotel on Monday, April 13, 2026. The event is aimed at scouting professional partners capable of revitalizing the historic landmark.
As reported by Antara, this initiative is structured under a Cooperation of Use (KSP) scheme for regional assets. It is designed to ensure the site’s long-term sustainability while maintaining its status as a public treasure.
The Acting Head of the Bandung Financial and Asset Management Agency (BKAD), Agus Slamet Firdaus, emphasized that the move is a strategic step toward professionalizing the zoo's operations.
“Through market sounding, the Bandung City Administration wants to attract potential partners while ensuring the cooperation process is conducted transparently, competitively, and in accordance with regulations,” said Agus in Bandung on Friday, April 10, 2026.
He noted that the ultimate goal is to establish a management system that is not only professional but also deeply integrated with the city's broader environmental goals. The invitation is specifically extended to legally incorporated conservation institutions that can bring both expertise and vision to the table.
Beyond the primary focus on wildlife conservation, the proposed partnership is expected to encompass the management of integrated green open spaces and the enhancement of educational and recreational facilities. This multifaceted approach aims to turn the zoo into a premier public service hub that balances ecological responsibility with high-quality tourism.
The overhaul is intended to be comprehensive, touching upon administrative governance, animal welfare standards, and the overall visitor experience. However, the city remains mindful of the complex regulatory landscape surrounding wildlife.
“The involvement of the central government in this scheme remains a primary concern, considering that the management of animals, especially protected species, falls under national authority,” explained Agus.
By aligning local management with national conservation standards, the city hopes to attract investors and institutions with proven competence. These partners will be expected to manage Bandung Zoo's wildlife ethically and sustainably for generations to come. ***
