  • PT Pindad, in collaboration with the Red and White Cabinet, is implementing a decentralized waste management strategy to alleviate the environmental crisis at the Bantargebang Integrated Waste Treatment Site (TPST).
  • The initiative aims to process waste at the village and sub-district levels, effectively reducing the volume of refuse sent to major regional landfills.
  • A primary feature of this plan is the use of the Stungta Pindad, a mobile smokeless incinerator designed for efficient use in both urban and rural settings.

RRI.CO.ID, Bandung – State-owned Industrial Equipment Company PT Pindad in collaboration with the Red and White Cabinet to address the long-standing environmental crisis at the Bantargebang Integrated Waste Treatment Site (TPST) in Bekasi, West Java.

By deploying advanced downstream technologies, including "smokeless" incinerators, the initiative aims to process waste at the village and subdistrict levels, effectively cutting off the massive flow of refuse to regional landfills.

The strategic roadmap was solidified during a limited coordination meeting in Bandung, West Java, on Sunday, April 5, 2026, attended by Higher Education, Science, and Technology Minister Brian Yuliarto, Minister of Environment Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, and PT Pindad President Director Sigit P. Santosa.

Minister Yuliarto emphasized that solving the Bantargebang dilemma requires an integrated "upstream-to-downstream" approach driven by proper governance and land allocation. "The settlement of Bantargebang waste management needs to be carried out from upstream and downstream. Upstream involves stopping the flow of waste supply, while downstream focuses on accelerating the reduction of waste mountains and reforestation," Minister Brian said, as quoted by Antara.

Supporting this vision, Minister Hanif Faisol Nurofiq highlighted the transformation of local waste facilities into advanced units known as TPS3A (Powerful, Safe, and Natural Waste Treatment Sites). This evolution is intended to ensure that waste issues are resolved locally, removing the dependency on massive centralized dumping sites.

"The Bantargebang waste problem can be resolved provided that decentralization is already running. With various waste processing technology options, we hope this can be implemented down to the village scale," remarked Minister Hanif.

As the primary technology provider, PT Pindad has prepared a suite of waste management solutions, ranging from Hydrothermal Carbonization (HTC) and autothermix to high-tech plasma systems. A centerpiece of this arsenal is the Stungta Pindad, a mobile smokeless incinerator designed for urban and rural efficiency.

Sigit P. Santosa confirmed that these tools are ready to meet the President’s mandate for localized management. "The President's direction is to conduct waste decentralization, which will later be resolved at the village and subdistrict levels. For the first pilot projects in Jakarta and Bandung, once completed, they will be implemented in other regions." ***
