RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta: Flooding affected several areas in Jakarta after heavy rain poured over the city on Sunday, 8 March 2026. The Provincial Government of DKI Jakarta quickly deployed personnel and flood control equipment across affected locations.
The response followed extreme rainfall recorded throughout the capital and surrounding regions. Data from the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) showed flooding in 147 neighborhood units.
Nineteen roads across Jakarta were also inundated during the heavy rainfall on Sunday morning. Water levels ranged from about 20 centimeters to 1.7 meters in several areas.
Jakarta Governor, Pramono Anung, said rainfall intensity in Jakarta and nearby regions was extremely high. He noted that rainfall reached 264 millimeters within a single day.
The level is significantly higher than the normal daily rainfall average in the capital. Pramono delivered the statement in Jakarta on Sunday, 8 March 2026, while responding to the flood situation. He highlighted the unusually high rainfall recorded across the capital region and surrounding areas.
“Today in Jakarta and its surrounding areas, rainfall reached 264 millimeters per day. That amount is considered very high rainfall,” Pramono said.
The Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) also recorded extreme rainfall in several monitoring locations. Two monitoring stations reported particularly high rainfall intensity during the same period. They were Sunter Hulu in Cilangkap, East Jakarta, and Pompa Arcadia in Kalibata, South Jakarta.
Since Saturday night, the Jakarta provincial government coordinated flood response measures with several related agencies. The Water Resources Agency immediately operated pumps in a number of flood-prone areas. The step aimed to accelerate water drainage from residential neighborhoods and several major roads.
The government deployed around 1,200 flood control pumps across Jakarta to strengthen mitigation efforts. The equipment includes 668 stationary pumps installed at 243 locations across the capital. Another 536 mobile pumps were placed in several areas considered vulnerable to flooding.
Pramono also warned about additional water flow from upstream regions surrounding Jakarta. Heavy rainfall in Bogor and Tangerang may increase river discharge flowing into the capital. Authorities therefore urged residents to remain alert and follow official weather information updates.
