German Distributor Acquires Joko Anwar’s 'Ghost in the Cell'

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Renowned German distributor Plaion Pictures has officially acquired the rights to 'Ghost in the Cell', the latest cinematic offering from visionary director Joko Anwar. This acquisition paves the way for the film’s theatrical release across German-speaking territories.

Producer Tia Hasibuan hailed the partnership as a significant milestone for Come and See Pictures. Plaion Pictures boasts a distinguished track record of distributing international award-winning films.

“It is a true honor for us to have our film acquired by Plaion Pictures. They are widely recognized for their reputation in distributing high-quality, award-winning films from across the globe,” remarked Tia Hasibuan in an official release on Thursday, February 5, 2026.

Plaion Pictures has previously handled prestigious titles such as the Academy Award-winning 'Parasite' and 'The Whale', as well as the Palme d’Or winners 'Titane' and 'Anatomy of a Fall'. This year, the distributor also added Joachim Trier’s 'Sentimental Value', a current Oscar nominee for Best Picture, to its impressive portfolio.

Beyond the acquisition news, 'Ghost in the Cell' has been selected for  the 2026 Berlinale Forum, the Berlin International Film Festival, where it will celebrate its world premiere. The Berlin International Film Festival is scheduled to run from February 12 to 22, 2026, marking a prominent international debut for Come and See Pictures.

Director Joko Anwar expressed his excitement about presenting the film to his home audience, hoping for a warm reception upon its domestic release.

“We cannot wait to present the latest film from Come and See Pictures, ‘Ghost in the Cell’, which will hit Indonesian cinemas on April 16, 2026. We hope the audience remains patient and welcomes our film with enthusiasm,” remarked Anwar.

The film features a high-profile ensemble cast, including Abimana Aryasatya, Bront Palarae, Danang Suryonegoro, and Endy Arfian, alongside Lukman Sardi, Morgan Oey, Kiki Narendra, Rio Dewanto, and Aming.

'Ghost in the Cell' is a collaborative production by Come and See Pictures, RAPI Films, and Legacy Pictures, with Barunson E&A serving as the international sales agent. Blending horror with sharp social commentary, the film is poised for a positive reception both domestically and abroad when it premieres in Indonesia on April 16, 2026.
