RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta: One of Netflix's primary goals in increasing its contribution to the national film industry is the rehabilitation of Indonesian filmmakers. Netflix is fostering the entry of new talent into the industry with a solid foundation by offering a variety of development programs and debut opportunities on international platforms.

According to Netflix Southeast Asia's Senior Director of Content, Malobika Banerji, Netflix is actively fostering an environment that enables Indonesian creators, both novice and seasoned, to conceive and execute ideas in a way that is more daring and varied.

"We want Netflix to be a creative space where ideas can flourish, and where Indonesian stories are told with heart and vision," said Malobika at the Next on Netflix Indonesia 2026 event last week in Jakarta, as quoted by Antara.

Netflix is partnering with a number of seasoned filmmakers in 2026 who are releasing their films on the platform for the first time, as well as giving a stage for artists who are making their Netflix debut. This action is seen as diversifying the representation of voices on screen and enriching the Indonesian storytelling environment.

Netflix maintains a number of creator development initiatives, such the Screenwriting Fellowship and Reel Life Camp, which are now in their second season, in order to promote talent sustainability. These programs are intended to increase access to education, improve technical abilities, and train a new cohort of Indonesian filmmakers to overcome industry obstacles.

Netflix is also fostering partnerships with the industry ecosystem in addition to personal growth. Netflix and the Indonesian Film Producers Association (Aprofi) struck a two-year Memorandum of Understanding in December 2025, which includes initiatives to foster greater transparency and safety in production procedures, such as the release of a national manual on production safety.

Malobika stressed that Netflix is concerned with more than just the quantity of content produced; it is also focused on laying the groundwork for Indonesia's creative sector in the long run.

"We are committed to highlighting Indonesian voices, bringing local stories to the world stage, and creating a space for the Indonesian creative community to continue to thrive," she said. ***
