RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta: The film Esok Tanpa Ibu (Mothernet) marks an international collaboration between Indonesian and Malaysian filmmakers. Malaysian director Ho Wi Ding directed the project, which features an Indonesian cast and production team.

It is a Base Entertainment production, co-produced by Beacon Films and Singapore-based Refinery Media. Esok Tanpa Ibu also received support from the Singapore Film Commission (SFC) and the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA).

Producer and actress Dian Sastrowardoyo expressed her enthusiasm for the opportunity to work with director Ho Wi Ding. Despite the cross-border nature of the film, she described the experience as smooth and enjoyable.

According to Dian, language barriers did not hinder the creative process: "Even though we speak different languages, the filming process went very smoothly. It was the best," she said at the press conference for Esok Tanpa Ibu at Epicentrum XXI in Jakarta on Monday, January 19, 2026.

Dian considers this collaboration a significant achievement for Indonesian cinema. She believes it demonstrates the readiness of Indonesian filmmakers to collaborate internationally.

"I think this is very interesting. It shows that our skills and working methods are comparable to those of foreign filmmakers," she said.

Dian believes that cross-border collaboration is crucial for developing the national film industry. Exchanging ideas and creative perspectives is believed to enrich the quality of the work.

Director Ho Wi Ding also expressed his pleasure in working with Indonesian actors. He described filming with Ringgo Agus Rahman, Ali Fikry, and Dian Sastrowardoyo as a memorable experience.

"I also feel fortunate to be working with you. It's the perfect combination for the first time," said Ho Wi Ding.

Throughout the production process, he praised the cast's professionalism. He hopes to establish similar collaborations in the future.

"Honestly, I was worried I wouldn't get the same opportunity again. But I'll do my best if I ever return to film," he said.

Esok Tanpa Ibu invites viewers to explore the dynamics of parent-child relationships enhanced by AI technology. The story is heartwarming and relevant to today's families.
