KBRN, Sleman:The Bumi Manusia area is the most well-known attraction at the Gamplong Nature Studio, Gamplong Village, Sleman Regency, Yogyakarta. Deliberately designed as a filming backdrop, this location evokes the atmosphere of a bygone era closely related to the story in Bumi Manusia, an adaptation of Pramoedya Ananta Toer's work.

The rows of colonial-style buildings are a popular spot for visitors to take selfies. The buildings on the Bumi Manusia set have undergone several paint and design changes to meet production needs.

These adjustments maintain a fresh and relevant look for the various films that use the same location. The art team changes the colors and props before filming begins.

Novi, an employee at Gamplong Nature Studio, explained that Bumi Manusia is not the only film to utilize the area. Several other films have used different angles in the area as well.

"It's not just one film. Several other directors have also filmed here," she said last week.

Besides being a production location, the area serves as a visual history education platform. Visitors can see reconstructions of the old city and learn how cinema recreates the past. Guides usually convey this information to tourists.

Another attraction is the set's proximity to a well-known story. Moviegoers feel a sense of familiarity when they witness the locations they've previously only seen on screen firsthand. This keeps the attraction busy on weekends and during the holiday season.

Many students visit for school assignments or community outings. They observe the building layout, prop details, and current or past production processes. "Before our assignments, we were given materials so we could explain them to visitors," he said.

The Yogyakarta Regional Office of the Ministry of Law (Kanwil Kemenkum) has recognized Gamplong Nature Studio as a location with high intellectual property potential. The office supports the development of intellectual property in Gamplong, particularly for advancing the national film industry.

The management continues to maintain the set to ensure its safety and comfort, and has sufficient space to do so. Visitor paths have been arranged to preserve film props. These efforts further solidify Gamplong Nature Studio as a national film tourism destination. (Misni Parjiati/Bambang MBKA)
