KBRN, Semarang: PT KAI Wisata, a subsidiary of state railway operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI), has reaffirmed its commitment to preserving heritage railway tourism through collaboration with KAI Operational Area (Daop) 4 Semarang. The initiative focuses on strengthening safety, environmental protection, and the preservation of historical values.

The Heritage Tourism Train, operating from the Ambarawa Railway Museum, offers passengers a nostalgic journey from Ambarawa Station to Tuntang Station.

Along the route, visitors enjoy panoramic views of Lake Rawa Pening, Mount Telomoyo, and Mount Merbabu. Steam and vintage diesel locomotives are available, though primarily for group bookings or reservations.

KAI Wisata President Director Hendy Helmy emphasized that heritage trains are more than transportation; they embody national history and identity.

“KAI Wisata is committed to ensuring that the tourist railway line remains sustainable, operationally safe, and environmentally friendly,” Hendy said on Wednesday, December 3, 2025.

Through its partnership with Daop 4, KAI Wisata coordinates routine security and maintenance of the heritage line and educates surrounding communities on railway safety and heritage preservation. Environmental monitoring is also conducted to ensure tourism activities do not harm the surrounding ecosystem.

“Collaboration with KAI Daop 4 is key to maintaining a balance between tourism services and railway sustainability. This synergy ensures that the heritage tourism experience is safe while providing historical education to the public,” Hendy added.

KAI Wisata believes that responsible heritage tourism management will not only benefit the company but also contribute to regional tourism development and raise public awareness of the importance of preserving historical railway assets.

“We hope this commitment can serve as an example of responsible heritage tourism management, with a safe environment and well-maintained tracks. The heritage tourism train will continue to be a source of shared pride and a valuable legacy for future generations,” Hendy said.
