KBRN, Jakarta: The Indonesian Film Festival (FFI) has announced the nominees for the 2025 Citra Awards on Sunday, October 19. The Shadow Strays and The Siege of Bukit Duri each received 12 nominations, the most of any entries this year.
Joko Anwar’s The Siege of Bukit Duri stands out for its historical narrative and intense social tension. The film portrays a community’s struggle amid humanitarian conflict, brought to life through powerful and emotional cinematography.
The film stars Morgan Oey and Omara Esteghlal, both of whom earned acting nominations. Morgan is nominated for Best Leading Actor, while Omara is in contention for Best Supporting Actor.
Meanwhile, Timo Tjahjanto’s The Shadow Strays offers a visually striking experience, blending action with psychological drama. Its dark, dynamic storytelling and distinctive directorial style set it apart from other contenders.
The film features Aurora Ribero and Hana Malasan, whose performances were praised for their strong character portrayals and on-screen chemistry. Aurora is nominated for Best Leading Actress, while Hana is up for Best Supporting Actress.
Both films are also nominated in major categories such as Best Director and Best Original Screenplay. Their dominance extends to technical categories, including Visual Effects, Cinematography, Costume Design, and Best Sound Design.
These nominations reflect the consistent quality of work produced by Joko Anwar and Timo Tjahjanto, who continue to raise the bar for Indonesian cinema. Their films contribute to the growing global recognition of the national film industry, which is now seen as being at the height of its creative power.
