KBRN, Jakarta: Indonesian Culture Minister Fadli Zon is spearheading a new initiative, dubbed Indonesia Waves, aimed at promoting local music on the global stage.

He shared this vision during a discussion with RRI Pro 3 on Monday, July 28, 2025, noting that the inspiration stems from the success of Indonesia’s domestic film industry, which has firmly captured the hearts of local audiences.

"Currently, 67 percent of cinema screens feature Indonesian films. We hope to see a similar momentum in the music sector," said Fadli, underscoring the importance of cultivating the Indonesia Waves phenomenon.

The minister described the initiative as a strategic effort by the Ministry of Culture to safeguard Indonesian heritage in the age of globalization. He also emphasized the importance of fostering cultural consciousness as a means to deepen the public's appreciation of Indonesia’s rich traditions.

Fadli expressed confidence that Indonesia Waves will amplify global recognition of Indonesia’s cultural diversity, while contributing to a positive image of the country as a vibrant center for arts and heritage.

"We must export Indonesian culture to the world, not the other way around," he declared, adding that nurturing a love for local culture is key to preserving it.

He hopes the initiative will boost domestic cultural preservation efforts, enhance international perception of Indonesia, secure global recognition of its cultural assets, and unlock growth in the creative economy. ***
