KAI Wisata Launches Heritage Steam Train 'Baru Klinthing'

KBRN, Jakarta: PT Kereta Api Pariwisata (KAI Wisata), a subsidiary of PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) - Indonesian Railways Company, introduced a unique travel experience through its monthly heritage steam train service, the Baru Klinthing, operating on the Ambarawa–Tuntang round-trip route. The service will commence on July 13, 2025.

This heritage-themed journey offers passengers a nostalgic ride aboard a classic wooden carriage pulled by a vintage steam locomotive. The package includes entry tickets to the Ambarawa Railway Museum, a tour guide, and welcome drinks for VIP-class passengers. Ticket prices range from Rp395,000 to Rp495,000, with departures scheduled on select Sundays.

Eko Januardi, Operations Director of KAI Wisata, in an official statement stated, "The Baru Klinthing is one of our iconic historical tourism assets. Through this program, we aim to provide an unforgettable experience while preserving Indonesia’s railway heritage."

The Baru Klinthing will operate monthly, with upcoming departures on August 17 (coinciding with Indonesia’s Independence Day), September 14, October 12, November 9, and December 14, 2025. Departures are scheduled at 1:30 PM (WIB), and bookings open 14 days in advance, subject to availability.

"We hope this journey not only entertains but also educates the younger generation about Indonesia’s transportation history and culture firsthand," Eko added.

The service is ideal for family outings, with child tickets available for ages three and above. Passengers must arrive 30 minutes before departure at Ambarawa Station.
