KBRN, Jakarta: An animated film by Indonesian talents titled Jumbo has successfully marked a new history in national cinema. In less than two months of screening, this film has garnered over ten million viewers.
This extraordinary success makes Jumbo the Indonesian animated film with the highest number of viewers in the history of cinema. In fact, this film has surpassed the record previously held by the film ‘KKN di Desa Penari’ (KKN in the Dancing Village).
Not only achieving accomplishments domestically, Jumbo has also achieved great success at the regional level. This film is now recorded as the best-selling animated film in the Southeast Asian region.
Reported from Instagram @jumbofilm_id, the number of Jumbo viewers reached 10,121,638 until 68th day of screening. This figure is a rare achievement for animated films, which were previously less popular with Indonesian audiences.
Directed by local filmmakers, this film tells the story of Don's struggle to revive his parents' legacy of fairy tale performances. The main character of Jumbo, Don, is played by Prince Poetiray, while other characters such as Nurman are played by Yusuf Özkan, Mae by Graciella Abigail, Meri by Quinn Salman, and Atta by Muhammad Adhiyat.
This film marks the directorial debut of Ryan Ardhiany, who revealed that this achievement is the result of hard work and prayer. This success shows that family films with local wisdom remain relevant and loved. ***
