Indonesia Strengthens Research Ecosystem Through Q1 Publication Workshop

RRI.CO.ID, Bali - The Directorate General of Research and Development through its Directorate of Research and Development Talent Development, held the 2026 Workshop on Writing Articles for Submission to International Q1 Journals (PASTI Q1) at Universitas PGRI Mahadewa Indonesia Bali on Wednesday September 16, 2026. The workshop is part of efforts to strengthen Indonesia’s national research ecosystem by improving the quality and reputation of scientific publications.

The PASTI Q1 program is designed not only to improve researchers’ technical skills in academic writing but also to foster a sustainable culture of high-quality research and publication at universities. The initiative is expected to help lecturers prepare scientific articles for submission to reputable international journals, particularly those ranked in the first quartile, or Q1.

Director General of Research and Development, Fauzan Adziman, said strengthening the research ecosystem should focus not only on increasing the number of publications but also on improving their quality and reputation. “It is not only about quantity or volume, but also about quality. We want published research findings to have broader access and ultimately create an impact,” he said.

Fauzan explained that the workshop serves as a form of assistance for lecturers in preparing scientific articles for submission to reputable international journals. He said high-quality publications are an important part of building a research ecosystem capable of generating broader benefits for society.

The strong interest in the 2026 PASTI Q1 program was reflected in the approximately 1,740 people who registered for the initiative. Following the selection process, 581 participants were proposed to take part in the training, while the Bali workshop became the first session in the 2026 PASTI Q1 series, involving 75 participants from 63 universities across Indonesia.

Fauzan also encouraged participants to build networks and collaborations with fellow participants and researchers from other universities. These networks are expected to develop into supportive research communities while creating opportunities for national and international collaboration.

Director of Research and Development Talent Development Heri Kuswanto said PASTI Q1 is an important part of efforts to strengthen the national research ecosystem, particularly by developing researchers’ capacity to write high-quality scientific articles. He also encouraged participants to share the knowledge gained during the workshop with colleagues at their respective universities and contribute to other research talent development programs organized by Directorate General of Research and Development.

Meanwhile, Rector of Universitas PGRI Mahadewa Indonesia, I Made Suarta, expressed appreciation for Ditjen Risbang’s trust in selecting the university as the host of the PASTI Q1 workshop. Through the 2026 PASTI Q1 program, the Directorate aims to foster an ecosystem that not only produces high-quality scientific publications, but also strengthens networks and collaboration among researchers and universities, enabling knowledge gained through the workshop to develop further and generate broader benefits.
