RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian government is providing participants in the SMK Go Global program with free skills training and professional certification. The program was officially launched nationwide on Wednesday, August 26, 2026.

Minister of Migrant Worker Protection (P2MI), Mukhtarudin, said the government would cover all costs related to the participants' training and skills development. The policy is part of efforts to prepare prospective Indonesian migrant workers with the necessary skills before working overseas.

“All of this, including for those participating online, is funded by the state, by the government, under President’s direction. The training, skills development, and certification are all free,” Mukhtarudin said.

He further explained that the government would also provide financial support for participants who need funding for the overseas placement process. One of the mechanisms is the People's Business Credit (KUR) scheme specifically for migrant workers.

He said the scheme is expected to reduce the financial burden on prospective migrant workers, who may otherwise face high costs when preparing to work overseas.

“The interest rate is only six percent, and we will discuss whether it can be lowered further. But for now, the interest rate is six percent. It is also insured by the government,” he conveyed.

In addition to technical training, participants will receive language training and an understanding of workplace culture in their destination countries. The government considers these skills essential to help migrant workers adapt and work professionally in their host countries.

The SMK Go Global program aims to produce migrant workers with the necessary skills, certifications, and mental preparedness to work overseas. The government is targeting the preparation of 500,000 skilled migrant workers by 2029.
