RRI.CO.ID, Sofifi - Indonesia's North Maluku Provincial Government is strengthening literacy programs to prepare young generations for digital challenges. The initiative was highlighted during the Literacy Exercise (Senam Literasi) event in Sofifi on Wednesday, July 22, 2026.

The program combined physical activities with reading promotion to encourage public interest in literacy. It involved government officials, students, children, and communities across North Maluku.

Secretary of North Maluku Province, H. Samsuddin Abdul Kadir, said literacy is essential amid rapid information and technology development. He emphasized that young people need strong adaptation skills in the digital era.

"In the midst of the disruption era we are facing today, children are required not only to be resilient but also to have high adaptability amid the rapid advancement of information technology." he said.

He warned that digital spaces also bring challenges, including misinformation, online fraud, cyberbullying, and other harmful content. Strengthening literacy, he said, is important to help communities respond wisely to digital developments.

The event also featured reading competitions, book review writing contests, and educational activities. The Dharma Wanita Association of North Maluku participated through its DWP Mengajar program to support children's learning and character development.

Head of the North Maluku Archives and Library Office, Muliadi Tutupoho, said the program combines healthy activities with literacy messages. He hopes the initiative can encourage people to visit libraries and build daily reading habits.

"Through this joint exercise, we hope to attract public interest in knowing libraries better and increasing reading habits." he said.

The North Maluku Provincial Government continues developing literacy programs to make libraries more accessible as educational centers. The initiative aims to create a generation that is knowledgeable, adaptable, and prepared for future challenges.
