RRI.CO.Id, Jakarta - Indonesia is strengthening its People's School program to expand access to inclusive education across the country. The government encourages students to adapt quickly and seize new opportunities to build a better future.

Social Affairs Minister, Saifullah Yusuf, met with students at the Jakarta People's School on Saturday July 18, marking the end of the first weekend of the School Orientation Period (MPLS). During the visit, he encouraged students to embrace their new environment and remain confident throughout their educational journey.

He acknowledged that adjusting to boarding school life can be challenging during the first few weeks. However, he expressed confidence that students would gradually adapt and fully participate in the learning process.

"The first, second, or third day may be difficult. You may miss your parents or find it hard to adjust to the busy schedule. But believe me, in one or two months, all of you will be able to follow the learning process at the People's School. This is not the first year we already have senior students who went through the same experience," he said.

He also encouraged students to make the best use of the school's permanent facilities while reminding them that every student has unique potential regardless of their background. According to Gus Ipul, teachers, dormitory supervisors, and mentors will continue guiding students to develop their abilities and confidence.

The dialogue featured several students who shared their personal experiences. One student described overcoming homesickness after the first few days, while another said the People's School had restored hope after believing she would no longer be able to continue her education due to her family's financial circumstances.

The student also spoke about being warmly welcomed despite having a different religious background, describing the school as a place where diversity is respected. In response, Gus Ipul reaffirmed that bullying, discrimination, intolerance, and all forms of physical or sexual violence have no place in the People's School.

The Social Affairs Ministry said the People's School program is designed to provide quality education for children from disadvantaged backgrounds while fostering an inclusive learning environment. The Jakarta campus currently serves 90 senior high school students, 90 junior high school students, and 27 elementary school students, with the government aiming to expand educational opportunities for more young Indonesians.
