RRI.CO.ID, Makassar - Makassar is solidifying its position as a global research and innovation hub in eastern Indonesia as Hasanuddin University (Unhas) prepares to host the Partnership for Australia-Indonesia Research (PAIR) Annual Meeting 2026.
Scheduled to take place from July 21 to 23, 2026, at the Unhas campus, the cross-border forum gathers academics, policy strategists, researchers, and development partners from both nations.
The summit aims to translate scientific findings into actionable public policies covering critical development challenges, including climate change, food security, natural resource management, and evidence-based governance.
Hasanuddin University Rector Jamaluddin Jompa emphasized the strategic importance of the gathering for regional and national policymaking.
"This annual meeting brings together academics, researchers, policymakers, and development partners from Indonesia and Australia to strengthen research synergies that directly impact public policy formulation and sustainable development," Jamaluddin stated in Makassar on Sunday, July 19, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
Jamaluddin noted that hosting the event underlines the growing prominence of eastern Indonesia in the global scientific community. Powered by an expanding higher education ecosystem and robust regional research networks, Makassar provides an ideal venue to align academic insights with real-world public needs.
The upcoming discussions will focus heavily on forging collaborative projects that advance the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Beyond high-level policy recommendations, the annual meeting seeks to expand cross-institutional networks, mentor early-career researchers, and spearhead joint initiatives, such as ongoing sustainable seaweed development projects between the South Sulawesi provincial administration, Unhas, and PAIR.
