RRI.CO.ID, Malang - The Indonesian Government launched the National Safe and Comfortable Spaces for Children Movement (Gernas RANA) on Monday, July 13, 2026. The launch coincided with the Child-Friendly School Orientation Program for the 2026/2027 academic year in Malang.
The program was held simultaneously through online participation from schools nationwide. Earlier, Indonesia introduced the movement for Islamic schools and boarding schools through MATA MUDA and MATA SANTRI programs.
Indonesia's Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Cultural Affairs, Pratikno, said children deserve protection in four essential spaces. They include families, schools, public spaces, and digital environments that support healthy growth and development.
He emphasized that the initiative follows President Prabowo Subianto's directive to strengthen child protection nationwide. He stressed the government's responsibility to guarantee safe and comfortable environments for every child.
“We emphasize that, under the instruction of President Prabowo, the government must ensure safe and comfortable spaces in families, educational institutions, public spaces, and also in the digital space,” he said.
Pratikno also highlighted the need for regulations, institutions, supervision, rewards, and sanctions for education providers. He encouraged children to report bullying or violence without fear because every child deserves protection.
He reminded children that they have the right to grow in safe environments. He encouraged them to seek help from trusted adults whenever they face violence or bullying.
“You have the right to obtain safe and comfortable spaces. If you face problems or experience bullying from others, do not hesitate to report them to your teachers and parents,” he added.
Minister of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection, Arifah Fauzi, said the movement should reduce violence through prevention involving many stakeholders. Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Abdul Mu'ti reaffirmed Indonesia's commitment to creating safer, more inclusive, and more humane schools through Ministerial Regulation Number 6 of 2026.
The launch strengthened cross-sector collaboration involving ministries, regional governments, education offices, teachers, and parents. East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa and regional leaders also attended the national event.
