RRI.CO.ID, Indramayu - The Government of Japan has handed over a new junior high school building to SMPIT Miftahul Ulum Kroya in Indramayu, West Java. The handover ceremony took place on Thursday, July 9, 2026, under Japan's Grassroots Grant Assistance Program.
The ceremony was attended by Economic Counselor of the Embassy of Japan in Indonesia, Hiroyuki Hanawa. Representatives from Indonesia included Miftahul Ulum Kroya Islamic Education Foundation Chairman Taryadi and Temiyang Village Head Kardono.
The project was signed in March 2025 between the Embassy of Japan in Indonesia and the Miftahul Ulum Kroya Islamic Education Foundation. It aims to provide a safer and more hygienic learning environment for junior high school students.
Before the project, SMPIT Miftahul Ulum Kroya had no permanent school building. Students used borrowed classrooms, temporary spaces, and a nearby mosque for learning activities.
Japan provided a grant of approximately Rp1.3 billion through the Grassroots Grant Assistance Program. The funding supported the construction of two school buildings, one toilet building, and classroom equipment.
The new facilities allow students and teachers to study and work in a more suitable environment. They also improve sanitation and support better educational activities at the school.
The grant totaled 11,766,628 Japanese Yen for the entire project. The assistance also helps meet growing demand for junior high school education in the Kroya area.
The Embassy of Japan expressed hope that community-based cooperation would strengthen bilateral relations. The initiative reflects Japan's continued commitment to supporting education and local communities in Indonesia.
