RRI.CO.ID, Depok - University of Indonesia (UI) is advancing its international collaboration agenda by hosting a courtesy visit from Jinan University (JNU), a leading public university from Guangzhou, China, on Friday, June 26, 2026. The meeting, held at UI’s Depok campus, West Java, focused on exploring opportunities for joint academic programs and student mobility initiatives.

UI Deputy Rector for Research, Innovation, Student Affairs, and Alumni, Hamdi Muluk, led the discussions, emphasizing UI’s openness to expand cooperation with JNU. “As Indonesia’s leading comprehensive university, UI welcomes collaboration with Jinan University, which we hope will soon translate into concrete programs benefiting both academic communities and society at large,” he said, as quoted on UI's official website, on Friday.

Although no formal agreement has yet been signed, both institutions identified wide-ranging potential for cooperation. Key areas include international academic partnerships, double degree and joint degree programs, and academic mobility schemes.

JNU Chancellor Sun Yu, who headed the visiting delegation, expressed appreciation for UI’s willingness to collaborate. He voiced hope that the meeting would lead to tangible outcomes, particularly in joint academic initiatives.

Discussions highlighted innovative program models such as the “2+2” scheme, allowing undergraduate students to study two years at UI and two years at JNU, and the “4+0” double degree model, enabling students to complete four years at their home university while following a jointly designed curriculum recognized by both institutions.

Beyond degree programs, both sides explored opportunities for student and faculty exchanges, joint lectures, collaborative research, and co-hosted workshops or conferences. UI’s Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), Faculty of Administrative Sciences (FIA), and Faculty of Humanities (FIB) were identified as key drivers for initial collaboration, aligning with JNU’s strengths in business administration, industrial economics, and Chinese literature and culture.

As a follow-up, UI and JNU will intensify communication to map curricula and finalize details, aiming to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the near future.

Founded in 1906, Jinan University is one of China’s oldest higher education institutions, with campuses in Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, and Tokyo. It has a strong commitment to internationalization, hosting over 2,250 foreign students.

The partnership with UI is expected to enhance UI’s academic reputation and global standing. This initiative reflects UI’s broader push to strengthen international academic collaboration and expand opportunities for its students and faculty in the global education landscape. ***
