RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) showcased its growing role in advancing sustainable development by actively participating in the Global Sustainable Development Congress (GSDC) 2026, held in Jakarta from June 21–24.

The four-day forum brought together universities, industry leaders, and policymakers from around the world, offering ITS a strategic platform to expand its global network and share impactful innovations.

ITS Secretary Umi Laili Yuhana emphasized that international exposure provides valuable insights for strengthening sustainability programs on campus.

“We discussed education planning, renewable energy, climate resilience, digital transformation, and technology as part of efforts to achieve the SDGs,” she said, as quoted on the intitute's official website.

Head of Institutional Reputation at ITS, Sarah Cahyadini, highlighted that cooperation discussions focused on research and community engagement linked to sustainability. Key topics included microplastics, robotics, and waste management.

She added that while many participating universities are already ITS partners, the congress also opened new opportunities for collaboration with industry and policymakers.

Beyond dialogue, GSDC offered universities a chance to explore the latest approaches to measuring institutional contributions toward the SDGs. ITS gained insights into effective reporting, impact assessment, and strategies for embedding sustainability into research and community programs.

Umi Laili stressed that ITS aims to demonstrate that higher education is not only about producing knowledge and technology but also about delivering tangible contributions to sustainable development.

She expressed optimism that ITS’s active role at GSDC will foster lasting synergies. “Sustainable development challenges cannot be solved by one institution or one country alone. Cross-border collaboration is the key to generating innovative and impactful solutions,” she said.

By engaging in GSDC 2026, ITS reaffirmed its commitment to advancing SDG 4 (quality education) and SDG 17 (partnerships for the goals), positioning itself as a global partner in building a more inclusive and sustainable future. ***
