RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Chinese Embassy in Jakarta has highlighted the important role of Indonesian students in China as cultural and educational ambassadors who strengthen bilateral cooperation.

At the opening of the China Higher Education Exhibition 2026 in Jakarta on Sunday, June 14, 2026, Education Attaché Chen Wu emphasized their dual contribution.

“They are not only pursuing knowledge and self-development in China but also acting as successors of friendship between the two nations, serving as ambassadors in fostering closer cooperation between China and Indonesia,” he said, as quoted by Antara.

Chen noted that the Indonesia-China strategic partnership continues to expand, producing significant positive outcomes. Currently, more than 15,000 Indonesian students are enrolled in various institutions across China.

Their academic journey is complemented by cultural immersion, which broadens their global outlook and prepares them to contribute to stronger ties between the two countries. “The younger generation is the future of the nation and the hope of friendship between China and Indonesia across generations,” Chen added.

Beyond individual study, Chen encouraged deeper collaboration between Indonesian and Chinese universities. He explained that institutional partnerships can drive innovation, cultural exchange, and new achievements through joint research and academic cooperation.

The exhibition itself introduced Indonesian students to dozens of leading Chinese universities, including Peking University and Wuhan University, underscoring the breadth of opportunities available.

Earlier this year, Deputy Head of Indonesia’s Mission in Beijing, Parulian Silalahi, also underlined the strategic importance of Indonesian students in China. He described them as a diaspora community that contributes to national development and resilience.

“The number of Indonesian students in China has now reached 20,000, returning to pre-pandemic levels, and the trend continues to rise,” Parulian said.

This narrative reflects broader themes such as Indonesia-China education cooperation, the role of student diaspora in diplomacy, and the growing impact of academic partnerships between nations. ***
