RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – The Indonesian government is promoting a more equitable relationship in research and higher education cooperation with France. This step was realized thru the signing of the Implementing Agreement, which is a follow-up to President Prabowo Subianto's visit to France some time ago.

The Director General of Research and Development of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, Mohammad Fauzan Adziman, stated that the Indonesia-France cooperation will be focused on three main areas: education, research, and academic mobility.

According to him, the paradigm of research collaboration has changed. Indonesia is no longer positioned as a location for data collection in research, but rather as a partner with an equal role in the development of science.

"Indonesia is no longer just a research ground, but a research partner. We are becoming research collaborators," Fauzan said in Jakarta, Thursday, June 4, 2026.

He explained that the Indonesian government has prepared a co-funding scheme, both for sending students to France and for the implementation of collaborative research projects.

Fauzan added that the Indonesia-France research collaboration will be directed toward problem-solving research that has a direct impact on society. Currently, the government has established eight priority areas, namely food, energy, health, downstreaming and industrialization, materials and manufacturing, maritime, defense, and digitalization, which includes artificial intelligence (AI) and semiconductors.

"We are indeed pursuing to ensure that the results of this research have an impact on society, can be used by the community, and solve the problems present in our society," he said.

According to Fauzan, the government has also prepared a national research roadmap for 2026-2045, which was developed in collaboration with the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN). This roadmap is expected to serve as the foundation for the long-term development of research cooperation between Indonesia and France over the next 50 years.
