RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology is advancing international cooperation with Harvard Medical School in the United States, focusing on medical education, health research, and the development of community-based primary healthcare services.
Minister Brian Yuliarto said the partnership reflects Indonesia’s commitment to building a stronger ecosystem in higher education, science, and technology. “We are pleased to welcome the Harvard Medical School delegation today and hope this collaboration can grow through joint programs,” Minister Brian said in Jakarta on Friday, May 8, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
He emphasized Indonesia’s vast potential in health research, particularly in tropical diseases and primary healthcare.
Global collaboration, he added, is essential to ensuring that education and research meet society's needs. “It is anticipated that cooperation between Indonesian universities and global institutions like Harvard Medical School will foster innovation and improve the quality of medical education in Indonesia,” he said.
Dean for Research Initiatives and Global Programs at Harvard Medical School, David Golan, expressed his commitment to strengthening collaboration in healthcare services. He explained that the model aims to bring primary healthcare closer to communities, reducing reliance on centralized services in major cities and hospitals.
Golan also welcomed opportunities for students, academics, and researchers from Indonesia through training, education, and collaborative research.
“Harvard Medical School invites students, scholars, and researchers from all over the world to engage in training and exchanges in education and research. We are confident this collaborative program will benefit both parties,” he said.
The two sides discussed enhancing research capacity, producing joint publications, organizing seminars, and developing a community-based primary healthcare model. They also highlighted the importance of data-driven research and strengthening human resources in health, including physician training and primary care education.
This collaboration supports the ministry’s goal of ensuring that higher education, science, and technology directly contribute to national development challenges and improve the quality of life for Indonesian citizens. ***
