RRI.CO.ID, Bandung – The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), through its Research Center for Geological Resources (PRSDG), is promoting sustainable management of Earth’s resources through the DiGDaya Webinar titled “Earth Day: Sustainable Earth Resource Management,” to be held on April 21–22, 2026. The event adopts a comprehensive approach to managing geological resources, ranging from exploration, processing, and utilization to conservation, as an effort to maintain a balance between human needs and environmental sustainability.
Head of PRSDG BRIN, Iwan Setiawan, said that the momentum of Earth Day should be used to enhance public literacy and engagement in natural resource management. “Through this activity, we hope to increase public participation in supporting effective, efficient, environmentally friendly, and sustainable management of geological resources in Indonesia,” Iwan said in a statement from BRIN on Monday, April 20, 2026.
He said that exploration and utilization of Earth’s resources remain necessary to support mineral downstreaming, technological innovation, and improved quality of life, but must be carried out wisely to minimize environmental impacts.
Meanwhile, Chairperson of the Organizing Committee, Aryo Dwi Handoko, stressed the importance of conservation in managing geological resources. “Geological conservation aims to prevent environmental degradation while preserving geological heritage for future generations,” Aryo said.
He also said that the webinar also provides comprehensive understanding to the public regarding the exploration of minerals and mining materials in Indonesia, including their processing and utilization, while encouraging behavioral changes toward more responsible use of natural resources.
The event, held in line with the annual Earth Day commemoration on April 22, carries the global theme “Our Power, Our Planet” and is expected to raise public awareness and strengthen community participation in maintaining Earth’s sustainability. Through synergy between research, innovation, and public participation, BRIN reaffirmed its commitment to continue delivering scientific solutions to support sustainable Earth resource management for the future of the environment and the well-being of future generations.
