RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia is pivoting toward a knowledge-based economy by leveraging high-level international partnerships to cultivate elite technical talent. In a meeting held in Jakarta on Saturday, April 18, 2026, the Higher Education, Science, and Technology Minister, Brian Yuliarto, met with the US Charge d’Affaires ad interim, Peter M. Haymond, to solidify a roadmap for global collaboration in education and research.
This initiative is designed to accelerate national economic transformation by aligning academic output with modern industrial demands. Minister Brian emphasized that targeted global synergy is essential for Indonesia to remain competitive in an increasingly tech-driven global market.
"The primary focus of this cooperation is directed toward improving the quality of human resources through international-standard education and research programs," he said, as quoted by Antara.
The partnership framework introduces dual-degree programs and cross-border collaborative research aimed at fostering high-impact innovation. To ensure these opportunities are accessible, the ministry is optimizing various funding schemes, including the Indonesia Endowment Fund for Education (LPDP).
These scholarships are intended to place Indonesia's top talents in world-class universities while building a robust global academic network.
A significant pillar of this collaboration is the ambitious development of the domestic tech sector. Minister Brian revealed specific targets that require a massive influx of specialized expertise.
"We are targeting the development of approximately 10 semiconductor products and the need for up to 15,000 engineers. For that, cooperation with universities is key," he noted.
Beyond the tech industry, the government is also prioritizing the healthcare sector by encouraging the establishment of new medical universities. This move is intended to bridge the gap in medical personnel capacity and expand access to medical education across the archipelago.
Furthermore, the partnership extends to basic education facilities, utilizing advanced learning technologies to ensure the educational ecosystem remains adaptive to rapid technological shifts.
"This synergy is expected to strengthen Indonesia's position as a strategic player in a sustainable and innovation-based global industrial ecosystem," concluded Minister Brian. (Annaila Azzahra/Bambang MBKA)
