RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia continuously expands international cooperation in higher education, research, and human resource development to support a science- and technology-based economic transformation. The effort was highlighted during a meeting between Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, Brian Yuliarto, and Chargé d’Affaires ad interim of the United States Embassy, Peter M. Haymond, in Jakarta on Thursday, April 16, 2026.
According to a press release issued by the ministry, the cooperation focuses on improving the quality of human resources through internationally standardized education and research programs. The initiative includes the development of joint degree programs and cross-border collaborative research aimed at producing high-impact innovations.
The government is also optimizing various education financing schemes, including through the Lembaga Pengelola Dana Pendidikan (LPDP), Indonesia’s government-funded education endowment, to expand access for Indonesian talent to world-class universities.
“We are targeting the development of around 10 semiconductor products and the need for up to 15,000 engineers. Therefore, cooperation with universities is key,” Minister Brian said.
In the health sector, the government is also promoting the development of new medical universities to increase the capacity of medical education nationwide. This initiative is expected to address the growing demand for healthcare professionals while expanding access to medical education across regions.
In addition, efforts to improve the equal distribution of education quality are being supported through cooperation that includes strengthening educational facilities and the use of learning technologies in schools.
Through this synergy, Indonesia aims to strengthen its position in a sustainable and innovation-driven global industrial ecosystem.
