RRI.CO.ID, Depok - The University of Indonesia (UI) has renewed its collaboration with the University of Sydney (USYD), marking a significant step in expanding international academic networks and advancing joint research initiatives. The agreement, signed in Depok on Monday, April 13, 2026, underscores both institutions’ commitment to accelerating global engagement through education, research, and community service.

UI Rector Heri Hermansyah emphasized that the partnership aims to generate tangible benefits for society while deepening synergy between the two universities. “This cooperation opens opportunities for joint research projects, curriculum development, conferences, workshops, symposia, and academic exchanges, including student mobility programs,” he said, as quoted by Antara.

The collaboration also includes discussions on a double degree program, which would allow students to study at both UI and USYD and graduate with official degrees from each institution. Rector Heri presented the proposal directly to the USYD delegation led by Deputy-Chancellor, Mark Scott AO.

Scott highlighted the symbolic importance of the partnership, noting that UI is Indonesia’s oldest university while USYD holds the same distinction in Australia. “We are excited to build a deeper and more strategic global partnership with UI,” he remarked.

The renewed agreement builds on a long-standing relationship between the two universities, positioning USYD as a strategic partner for UI in addressing global challenges through collaborative research. Beyond academia, the partnership also serves as a bridge to strengthen ties between Indonesia and Australia, reinforcing UI’s role as a world-class research university committed to contributing both nationally and internationally. ***
