RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The culture of morning assembly has become a routine practice in various institutions, particularly within government offices and educational settings. This activity is generally carried out before the start of daily work as a way to ensure collective readiness.

In simple terms, a morning assembly is a gathering where leaders deliver briefings, important information, and short evaluations. It also serves to check attendance and ensure that personnel are prepared to carry out their duties.

The term “assembly” itself is derived from the Dutch word appel, which means a roll call or troop inspection. This tradition originated from military practices during the colonial era and was later adapted into Indonesia’s governmental work system.

Over time, morning assembly has evolved into a part of bureaucratic work culture that underscores discipline and responsibility. These values continue to be upheld as the foundation for building the work ethic of civil servants.

Referring to guidance from the Ministry of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform, government institutions are encouraged to conduct regular morning assemblies, particularly every Monday. The circular states that the activity aims to “maintain and strengthen a sense of nationalism and dedication to the state.”

In addition, morning assemblies are intended to foster employee discipline and build up coordination within institutions. All personnel, whether working from the office or remotely, are expected to participate in accordance with established regulations.

Thus, morning assembly is not merely a ceremonial routine, but a cultural practice that shapes work ethic and a sense of togetherness. This tradition continues to be maintained as it remains relevant in promoting discipline and effectiveness in the modern workplace.
