Government Launches the ASEAN-SEAMEO Joint Roadmap

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education of the Republic of Indonesia, in collaboration with the ASEAN Secretariat and the SEAMEO Secretariat, launched a strategic document titled ASEAN-SEAMEO Joint Roadmap on Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) in Southeast Asia on Thursday, April 9, 2026. This historic event aims to provide a comprehensive framework as a reference for planning and developing early childhood education and care at both national and regional levels.
This event was attended by various stakeholders, including high-ranking government officials, representatives from ASEAN member countries, international organizations, academics, and partner organizations.
The Director of Early Childhood Education at the Ministry, Kurniawan, stated that the event included a narrative presentation about the preparation of a document that marks the strong commitment of both regional organizations to the advancement of ECCE.
"Later, various important statements was delivered by high representatives from the ASEAN Secretariat and the SEAMEO Secretariat," he conveyed.
The highlight of the event was marked by a speech from the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Abdul Mu'ti, followed by the official launch ceremony of the roadmap.
This ASEAN-SEAMEO Joint Roadmap document is designed in great detail and contains seven key areas that becomes main focus of development in the coming years.
"The launch of this roadmap is not just a ceremony, but a tangible proof of the seriousness of Southeast Asian countries in recognizing the importance of early childhood education as the main foundation for human resource development," Kurniawan said.
Thru strong collaboration between the government, international organizations, academics, and the wider community, it is possible to create a resilient, high-quality, and equitable early childhood education and care system for a brighter future.
