RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Indonesia is set to deepen its academic and scientific footprint through a new partnership with Russia’s Bauman Moscow State Technical University (BMSTU). In a meeting held at Jakarta on Thursday, February 19, 2026, Indonesia’s Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, Brian Yuliarto, welcomed a Russian delegation to discuss integrating scholarship programs and launching joint research initiatives focused on cutting-edge technology.

The partnership aims to bridge the gap between Indonesian academic talent and Russian technical expertise. Minister Yuliarto stated that the scholarships are planned to be integrated into the Garuda Scholarship program. Both nations also committed to "concrete" collaborations, including professor exchanges, academic visits, and joint-supervision for doctoral candidates

Furthermore, Minister Yuliarto, stated that the joint research will align with Indonesia's eight national priority sectors, utilizing BMSTU’s specialized labs.

“We hope to soon begin concrete joint research programs, including professor exchanges, academic visits, and collaborative mentoring for doctoral programs,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mikhail Gordin, Rector of BMSTU-one of Russia's oldest and most respected technical universities—announced that specific quotas have been carved out for international recruitment, particularly for advanced degrees.

"We also have additional quotas allocated specifically for our university. These quotas will be used primarily for master's and postdoctoral programs," Gordin stated.

The Master’s programs typically span two years, while the PhD tracks involve two years of intensive research alongside Russian professors and engineers. These opportunities focus on high-impact fields such as, robotics, smart manufacturing, quantum computing, space technology, and green technology.
