RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Ministry of Tourism and the Indonesia Gastronomy Network have launched the Wonderful Indonesia Gourmet (WIG) program. This program aims to strengthen Indonesia’s position as a global gastronomy hub while empowering local communities.
Minister of Tourism, Widiyanti Putri Wardhana, said Indonesia has a wide range of authentic dishes, rich cultural heritage, and friendly people. With those assets, Indonesia can offer tourists an authentic cultural and gastronomic experience.
“They travel for authentic experiences, and gastronomy has become one of the strongest travel motivators in the world,” said the minister at the opening of the Food and Hospitality Indonesia 2026 exhibition in Jakarta on Tuesday, 21 July 2026, as quoted by Antara.
She said that in addition to supporting the development of cultural and gastronomic tourism, Wonderful Indonesia Gourmet (WIG) also includes support to improve the tourist experience while helping local communities.
The minister said the development of gastronomic tourism services must be matched by improvements in the quality of hotels, restaurants, and cafes.
“The quality of hotels, restaurants, cafes, tourism services, and hospitality professionals ultimately shapes how visitors experience Indonesia,” she said. ***
