RRI.CO.ID, Yogyakarta - During school holidays, many travelers visit Yogyakarta for its calm atmosphere. The “slow travel” trend has become increasingly popular among urban visitors.

Tourists now prefer personal, low-key experiences overcrowded attractions. One place that fits this preference is Dapur Mami Mbul.

The eatery is a true hidden gem in downtown Yogyakarta, tucked away in the quiet Bumijo neighborhood of Jetis Subdistrict. Visitors must enter a residential area to find it.

Owner Thresita Queuedo Rina said Dapur Mami Mbul has been operating since 2024. Its main appeal is the authentic taste of its dishes. The most sought-after item is bakmoy ayam, a dish of chicken pieces served in a clear broth.

“It’s called Mami Mbul because when I chat with friends and colleagues, I often tease a funny friend by calling her ‘mbul,’ and that’s how the name Dapur Mami Mbul came about,” she said with laughter on Thursday morning, 2 July 2026.

Besides bakmoy, the menu offers a variety of traditional Indonesian side dishes. Daily offerings rotate so regulars won’t get bored. All ingredients are guaranteed fresh and prepared with care.

The café’s atmosphere feels very homey, like eating at your grandmother’s house. Its modest interior makes visitors feel warmly welcomed, inviting them to forget, for a while, the complexities of modern life. (Annaila Azzahra-EN)
