RRI.CO.ID, Singapore, — Indonesia’s famous Padang restaurant brand, Restoran Sederhana, has officially opened its newest outlet in Singapore, marking another step in bringing Indonesian cuisine to the global stage. Minister of Creative Economy and Head of the Creative Economy Agency, Teuku Riefky Harsya, inaugurated Restoran Sederhana Singapore on Sunday, June 14, 2026 in Kampong Glam, one of Singapore’s historic cultural districts.

“The opening of Restoran Sederhana in Singapore demonstrates that Indonesian brands are ready to compete globally while staying true to their cultural roots. Culinary products are not merely food; they are instruments of cultural diplomacy that introduce Indonesia to the world,” he said during the inauguration, quoted from official statement.

Located at 738 North Bridge Road, the restaurant is operated by PT Global Minang Ventura, or GMV. It previously held a soft opening on May 29, 2026, and received positive responses from local residents and the Indonesian diaspora.

Founded in 1972, Restoran Sederhana has grown into one of Indonesia’s most recognized Padang restaurant brands, with nearly 200 outlets across its network. After Singapore, Melbourne, Australia, it is planned as the brand’s next international destination.

Minister Riefky said the expansion strengthens the global presence of Indonesian cuisine while opening opportunities for other creative economy products and talents to enter international markets. “We hope to see more Indonesian brands go global. Restoran Sederhana is a strong example of how local intellectual property can grow into an internationally competitive brand,” he said.

Indonesia’s creative economy currently contributes around IDR 1,600 trillion to national GDP. In 2025, creative economy exports reached USD 31.94 billion, while investment realization stood at IDR 183.01 trillion, with the culinary subsector remaining one of its key growth engines.

President Director of PT Global Minang Ventura, Nova Dana Eka Putri, appreciated the Ministry’s support in helping Indonesian culinary brands expand globally. “The Ministry’s support and collaborative spirit have been instrumental in bringing Indonesian cuisine to the global stage. We believe this expansion contributes to culinary diplomacy, nation branding, and the global competitiveness of Indonesia’s creative economy,” Nova said.

Besides, the opening also carries historical meaning, as Kampong Glam was once home to Warung Pariaman, an iconic Indonesian eatery that operated for nearly eight decades.

“We warmly welcome Restoran Sederhana to Kampong Glam. This district is rich in history and cultural heritage, including its long-standing connection to Warung Pariaman. The presence of Restoran Sederhana helps continue that legacy while enriching Kampong Glam’s culinary landscape. We look forward to its success and to welcoming even more visitors to the area,” Singapore Member of Parliament Wan Rizal said.
