RRI.CO.ID, Purwakarta - The Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijri holiday has become not only a time for social gatherings but also an opportunity for culinary tourism among travelers returning home.
One of the destinations that saw a surge in visitors was Purwakarta’s signature dish, sate Maranggi (Maranggi satay), which drew large crowds during Eid al-Fitr 2026.
The “Sate Maranggi Bah Use” restaurant, established in 1997, has become a popular stop for holiday travelers. Ani, the owner’s daughter, said customer numbers rose sharply compared to normal days, driving raw meat demand from around 30 kilograms per day to as much as 100 kilograms during the holiday period.
“Yes, there’s a 50 to 70 percent increase, judging by the number of visitors,” Ani said in Purwakarta Regency, West Java, on Friday, March 27, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
Unlike regular days, when crowds peak at lunchtime, visitors began arriving from early morning during Eid to enjoy the specialty dishes.
Sate Maranggi is made with beef or goat meat, marinated in spices such as coriander, ginger, galangal, and brown sugar, resulting in a savory-sweet flavor and tender meat.
It is served with fresh chili sauce and sweet soy sauce. Other dishes available include ayam bakakak (whole grilled chicken), beef rib soup, karedok (raw vegetables with peanut and ginger sauce), and sambal dadak.
A visitor from Jambi who was returning to Bandung for Eid, Indri, 28, said she took the opportunity to try the Purwakarta specialty after hearing about the restaurant from her sister in Bandung. “My sister often comes here, ordering satay and chicken. I only eat here when I go to Purwakarta,” Indri said.
Located in Cihuni Village, Pasawahan Subdistrict, Purwakarta Regency, West Java, the “Sate Maranggi Bah Use” restaurant has become a culinary destination for travelers passing through the region, offering local specialties in the cool atmosphere of surrounding rice fields. ***
