RRI.CO.ID, Banda Aceh - During Ramadan 1447 Hijri/2026 AD, the Meunasah in Gampong Beung Bakjok, Kuta Baro Subdistrict, Aceh Besar Regency, Aceh Province, will distribute around 200 packages of Acehnese porridge, often called ie bu peudah, to the community for breaking the fast every day.
"This Meunasah is providing around 200 packages of ie bu peudah to be distributed as iftar meals to the community every day during Ramadan," said coordinator of the takjil (fast-breaking snack) provision team Faisal in Gampong Beung Bakjok, in Aceh Besar, on Sunday, February 22, 2026.
Ie bu peudah is a dish made from 44 types of forest leaves. It is cooked with a mixture of pepper, turmeric, galangal, and garlic. The spice mixture is then mixed with rice and grated coconut. The spices used for flavoring do have a hint of spiciness. For this reason, the meal is known as ie bu peudah, which means spicy rice water.
He said that besides serving the local community, this Acehnese porridge is also distributed to passersby who stop to break their fast at the meunasah (meal-making place) in the village.
"Ie bu peudah is only cooked during the fasting month. The men cook, while the women mix the spices. The cooking team rotates daily. So, the taste is certainly different every day," Faisal said.
The practice of cooking ie bu peudah has been passed down through the generations, according to Faisal. The custom of preparing ie bu peudah throughout the fasting month has been practiced since he was a youngster, around 40 years ago.
"The tradition of cooking ie bu peudah during the fasting month only exists in villages in the Kuta Baro Subdistrict. The cooking ingredients are donated by residents," he said.
Each day, the cooking procedure lasts between two and three hours. After the food is cooked, people come with their own containers to collect it. The majority of residents pick it up following the Asr prayer.
"This ie bu peudah is always sold out every day. We provide plastic bags for people who don't have a container so they may bring this Acehnese porridge home," said Faisal. ***
